Review

Over the many topics we have discussed this semester I have learned a lot. Most importantly to always be aware of what is going on in the world and how to respond in certain situations so that a spectacle is not made. I have also learned that leaders won't always do the right thing but we have to trust that the right thing will happen eventually. The greatest thing to take away from this semester is that everyone has a different opinion.

Every news station, everyone in this class, everyone with a brain thinks and feels differently. People within the same parties often have major disagreements regarding policy issues specifically. It is important to always speak your mind in a sound and appropriate fashion. If you can be heard you can make the change you desire.

Everyones Involved

One thing i have learned through this class is that almost everyone we see in the media is a politician in one way or another. If someone is standing for something they believe in this is politics to a definition. In the acts that have taken place in Ferguson, Mo, everyone is involved with the politics of the situation. Everyone wants to be heard and everyone wants to make a difference.

We have seen protestors and people rioting and changing lives for people that just want to get passed this. We have even seen Professional Athletes make statements disgraced by the actions of people of their race. They were embarrassed and wanted people to be aware that not all individuals of that race felt that way and deserved the judgement and repercussions that were awaiting.

Meanwhile in St. Loius on Sunday, 5 Rams players made a spectacle of themselves on the field prior to a football game where they five individuals raised their hands in a don't shoot position as Michael brown is said to have done. This again is another form of protesting. The players are becoming under much consideration and it appears punishments will await them. Its crazy that even role models for children can act in such defiance.

Obama Care failing

The whole point of Obama Care was to provide healthcare to everyone. We now see that it is not being so great as we were promised. People are losing interest and have no faith in what is supposed to be the best healthcare for all people. The Healthcare website just launched a area where small business owners may sign their employees up for obamacare.

We have known from day one that Obamacare was for the lower class people and that the UpperClass people would be affected in a negative way by it. Most small business owners are in the middle class. so they still suffer a negative affect to those that are receiving free government healthcare. They do not want to sign up their employees when it will only harm them a little more each time. So needless to say the area of the website has been almost unused and people really just tend to stay away.

Ending ISIS?

One of the major topics over the course of the semester has been ISIS. Sadly, it has not come to an end yet and i don't even believe there is light at the end of the tunnel but i do see some slight progress. The US is now currently working to gain turkey on our side for the use of their military bases and a joint military strike. This is the very step that needs to be take to end this war.

Throughout all of the ISIS troubles people from the west have been going in to syria to be a part of this militant group. How did they get into Syria in the midst of a war?? They simply travel to turkey and travel into Syria from their. Because Turkey is a part of NATO this should play for our cause a little. the members should be able to guilt Turkey into doing the right thing.

This article is a really good read about the process taking place in Turkey so that we can be more forceful in ending the war. Turkey is such a great place to be for us to invade northern Syria and end the war. It may take more troops but in order to keep our people safe it is necessary.

Obama v. Ferguson

As if the media is not doing a good enough job covering the events transpiring in Ferguson, Missouri, President Obama is about to take his chance to make the decision worse. Im sure if you are keeping up with my blogs your getting the impression that I hate Obama. Thats not the case, but i do not normally agree with the decisions he makes and I never agree with the political statements that he makes. Between ISIS and the recent election I don't believe Obama has made a statement that has made any citizen of this country happy. Every act he has made is ridiculous so I am very confused why he is taking on this Ferguson battle.

I understand that the Ferguson situation is a huge deal for our country but with the race issues involved I think Obama should stay away from this one considering his most recent decisions. I do not want to should racist in any way by talking about the race issues involved here, but with the involvement of our president, dependent upon what he plans to say, I don't think that it will subside the situation.

If Obama can work on political structure as opposed to just speaking, i do think he has the potential to be helpful in the situation. I think he should ultimately stay out of the situation and let the governor of Missouri solve those problems but agin if he could use behind the scenes involvement, i think it has the potential to be helpful in bringing ease to the situation.

Lame Duck

Congress has went back into session for the last time in order to get business taken care of before the holidays. Their main priority: the republican-controlled House and how they are going to deal with the immigration reform at their term in office. Other matters that they will deal with include the budget, which is directly connected to the power the new House will have, and more issues with ISIS.

There is basically one way left to keep Obama from passing what would be a law that no one else is in agreement with. The Congress in session has to pass a budget that will not allow president obama the funds to implement his law. Regardless of the law going through if there are no funds it is impossible to carry out. From my readings, it is in the interest of congress to do such and i think the majority is on board so they will make this happen. i will be anxious to see how this pans out in the coming days.

Ferguson Getting Their Way

Well, Darren Wilson, the officer involved in the shooting and killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO, has completed his resignation from the force. What i see to have been completely ridiculous has costs this man his livelihood. He was doing his job protecting the people and is being harmed for it. But that is truly besides the point of this post. Wilson has been forced to resign from the force and for the protection of the other officers on the force, he will not be receiving a severance package. This is all because of the protests.

With all the commotion regarding the incident Officer Wilson became somewhat of a political figure in the racial case. Riots have ruined the town of Furguson but the rioters are finally getting their way. They have not came to a halt because of the resignation but because Officer Wilson has stepped down the riots have extremely diminished. I don't know what lies next in Wilsons life but this situation that was brought upon him will make it so difficult for him to ever be prosperous again.

Immigration Order

In my last post i wrote about Obamas executive orders and how the imperial presidency may be returning but i didn't get in-depth about anything because there was no knowledge of what was to come. Now the orders have began and things will be out of control soon enough. Obamas first ORDER of business has been to work on immigration laws and reform. He knows nothing will be allowed with the new Congress so he makes his orders regarding immigration now. The following article describes, from a conservative point of view, the wrongs Obama is doing:

http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/opinion/2014/11/21/opinion-presidents-immigration-executive-order-tramples-constitution/

The article makes reference to the safeguards that are laid out in the constitution through the separate pillars of our government. All this has been thrown out the door by Obamas actions. I don't think the policy implementation is the problem in this case. The problem is that we should be scared of what measures Obama is taking to get what he wants. HE DOES NOT HAVE THAT POWER! It doesn't seem as though anyone is attempting to stop this either.

The article is really very interesting but also very biased to make Obama look very bad. There are references to when Obama said that he couldn't make such actions in 2010. Now sense he is making these actions it appears he is a deceptive liar. He has nothing to lose at this point so why hold back now?

Executive Order

Prior to our previous election Obama had complete control of the Congress with the democratic majority. Well, following November 4, the midterm election, this all changed. Who knows what the cause of this was? Are Americans sick of Obama? Are they ready for change from Obama? Do they just want to see something new happen? Or do they just want the truth? Whatever the case the GOP now has control of the Congress.

Following the finalization of the results of the election, President Obama was, to say the least, pissed. It seemed as though he didn't know how to respond in the sense that he wouldn't be able to carry out his "plan."After a few days to regroup he was in an attack mode and sent out statements saying he was going to do what he wanted through executive order regardless of the situation. If he wanted legislation that would never be passed, he would use executive order to implement his plans without the interference of Congress. This is no way to act as the president of the United States.

Following his statements it has been released that he has ten different actions that he plans to use executive orders to push. This is a selfish way to act because he knows he won't get his way unless he uses this power that really shouldn't be his in the first place. If Congress, the representation of the people, do not want things to be passed its probably not what the people want. It doesn't matter what the presidents wants. we elected him to do things for us. Executive Rule is not for the people.

Presidential Power

In my last post I wrote about how the Presidents Power may be the only way to stop ISIS and in some way I may negate that a little in this post. Presidential power may have gone overboard this past week in declaring war on ISIS. The Constitution clearly states that Congress has the sole power to declare war. Due to the imperial presidency, the presidents, over time, have somehow acquired much more power than originally vested in the constitution. President Obama declared war on ISIS by himself with Congress out of session but thats not how it works. Congress has to convene for a lame-duck session to pass legislation to formally declare war. With elections coming up, no senator or representative wants to vote on this and allow it to affect there chances of keeping their seat. This creates a problem for our country, but what do the people do. If war is to be declared it needs to be done right and people need to quit sitting around waiting on someone else to do something.

Social Media?

By this point, everyone knows President Obama has sent several threats to ISIS. Well this time I am just plane baffled at how far things have gone. Its been said that ISIS is winning the debate and gaining to many young Muslims support. The solution: Social Media. ISIS is apparently very active on most social networking sites, especially Twitter. The writer that I acquired this information from actually held interviews with social networking companies, including twitter. Twitter informed the writer that they would not take down any information or any tweets that terrorist groups published. Why this is the case, i do not know. I wouldn't imagine this would be there business strategy so i do not see what harm it would do. I think the only way to get twitter to stop allowing this publicity from ISIS is by the use of the presidential power of the "Bully Pulpit." By using this the president can essentially, in most instances, act with whatever power he so desires. I hope that twitter will realize soon that they are a great danger to the safety of America and I hope Obama realizes what steps he has to take in the direction of twitter to rid this outlet for ISIS

Jumper

This past friday a man jumped the White House Fence on the North Lawn and made it inside the Home of the President before being apprehended by the Secret Service.

What!!?? Is this a real thing? How is this possible? Are we talking about the White House in D.C.?

These are many of the questions that are being asked following this scary and troublesome event. The main group (if you will) in question here is of course, the Secret Service. What were they doing to not only allow someone on the lawn but to allow them through the front doors of one of the most heavily guarded buildings in the world. As made evident by the media, they are under strict scrutiny. There have been a string of events lately that have called to question the reliability of the secret service. in spite of these events, the Secret Service has assured media outlets that they will review every aspect of the incident to ensure that proper precautions are taken.

Now, this is a serious event that could potentially effect President Obamas life forever, so how does he respond? Whether it is because he is was in Camp David for the weekend or what, he seemed not to be very concerned with the dilemma. In a statement he made, he was "completely confident" in the Secret Service and the steps and methods they will take to resolve the issue and/or occurrence. To see our leader so calm should keep us at peace but I think this situation is a little more serious than leaving it to the people that messed it up in the first place. Somebody needs to be actively resolving this and sense the Preseidents life is potentially at stake he needs to do something.

Shoulder to Shoulder

This is potentially one of the nicer posts you will see on here regarding my thoughts around the ISIS controversy. Recently the footage of the murder of David Haines from the United Kingdom has been released. Mr. Haines was murdered by an IS militant and following this President Obama made a statement regarding the steps that the United states would take and the impact we are going to have on this event. He announced that the United States would stand "shoulder to shoulder" with the United Kingdom through the midst of this adversity and trial. Particularly I do not agree with most foreign policy decisions that our President makes but this is a rare circumstance where i believe he is making the better decision. We have given the UK our word that we would be there for them in a time of war by being an ally, and that is exactly what were are following through with in this instance. Although, I do not believe this is the best time for us to be fighting other peoples battles for them, I am proud of the way we have responded in honoring our commitments.

This blog will solely be used for my Mass Media and Politics Class. Here i will discuss the way the major News Media Stations effect politics in every aspect. Whether it be a candidate, a party, or even ideas, the news will portray that thing and change it how they want to. It will be very interesting to see how the different things are cast among different stations and evaluate that to see potential how it really should be.
